2022 REU poster session and videos
The Georgetown REU Site in Materials Physics wrapped up the summer 2022 program with a lively poster session and video viewing. Ten undergraduate students from other colleges spent the summer at Georgetown working on faculty-mentored research projects and participating in professional development activities.

Georgetown Physicists Study Fundamental Structure of Flowing Cornstarch-Water Mixture
Results from the research groups of Profs Daniel Blair and Jeffrey Urbach, presented in a paper appearing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, reveal the intricate structures associated with the shear thickening transition in cornstarch suspensions, including the first measurements of relative flow between the cornstarch particles and the suspending fluid.

Study co-authored by Georgetown’s Dr. Gabrielle Dreyfus clarifies the need for comprehensive CO2 and non-CO2 mitigation approaches to address both near-term and long-term warming
The study by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, is the first to analyze the importance of cutting non-carbon dioxide climate pollutants vis a vis merely reducing fossil fuel emissions, in both the near-term and mid-term to 2050.
