CMT Seminar: Quantum spin simulation via driving phonon modes in a two-dimensional Penning trap

Wednesday, August 8, 2012 – 3:00pm – 4:30pm
Reiss 502
Adam Keith
Department of Physics, Georgetown

Adam Keith will give an extended practice talk for his Apker award interview later this month. Adam’s work started with an REU project last summer and has continued through last year and this summer. We are finishing two papers on the properties of the phonon modes and the laser-driven effective spin-spin interactions. Please come prepared to provide commentary to improve Adam’s talk and to learn about his work, which has been published in Nature, Phys. Rev. Lett. and will have two additional papers to be submitted to Phys. Rev. A.
