Congratulations to Paola Barbara for her promotion to the rank of Full Professor, effective August 2016. This promotion recognizes Prof. Barbara’s achievements in scholarship, teaching, and service. Prof. Barbara’s research in nanoscience addresses fundamental questions about how the properties of materials change as the dimensionality is reduced in going from bulk crystals to atomically-thin sheets to nanotubes to quantum dots. She is also interested in designing practical devices based on novel phenomena that occur in materials at the nanoscale. In both the classroom and the research lab, Prof. Barbara enjoys sharing the excitement of quantum physics and nanoscience with students at all levels.
