CMT Seminar: Recipes for performing quantum simulations using trapped atoms

It is hoped that quantum simulations using cold atoms can shed light on many unsolved problems in condensed matter physics. However, many important thermodynamic quantities such as superfluid densities are inaccessible by standard imaging methods. Without effective ways to measure those quantities, the ultimate goal of quantum simulations cannot be achieved. In this talk, I will discuss algorithms for mapping out several properties of homogeneous systems including superfluid densities, entropy densities, temperatures of the atoms in optical lattices and phase diagrams of quantum models. These schemes need only the density profile of the atoms as an input and can be used as recipes for quantum simulations.
