Lydia Chiao-Yap
Associate Professor Emerita
Lung Wen Chiao-Yap received her B.S. in chemistry from the National Taiwan University and did graduate work in physics at the National Tsinghua University in Taiwan. Subsequently, she was awarded the Li Foundation fellowship to study at UC Berkeley, where she received her Ph.D. in chemistry in 1961. Her thesis, a theoretical study of magnetic properties of deformed nuclei, was completed at the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory at Berkeley.
After postdoctoral work at Brookhaven National Laboratory and at the Nuclear Data Group of the National Academy of Sciences, she joined the Physics Department at Georgetown. She has consulted for the Nuclear Data Project at the Oakridge National Laboratory and for the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Laboratory in Yorktown Heights, New York. She has also served as visiting lecturer at the National Taiwan University.
Her research interests include the phenomenological study of the collective and individual particle aspects of nuclear structure and the electronic structure of silicides.
