GU Physics at the Astronomy Festival on the National Mall

The Georgetown Department of Physics recently participated in the Astronomy Festival on the National Mall on June 19th. This event, now in its sixth year, had participation from dozens of organizations including several other universities, NASA, the American Geophysical Union, Chandra X-ray Center/Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, and the US Naval Observatory.  It featured solar, optical, and radio telescope observations of the Sun, Moon, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn as well as hands-on activities, demonstrations, and a planetarium show with a portable blow-up dome. Georgetown Physics had a lively and well-attended booth, with a number of demonstrations showing the basics of the creation and propagation of electromagnetic radiation.
