In the first part of this talk, I shall discuss the scaling law for defect density generated during the passage of a closed quantum system through a critical point due to a
“non-linear” slow quench and derive a scaling law which reproduces its linear counterpart as a special case. In the second part, we shall discuss the non-equilibrium dynamics of the
Bose-Hubbard model and show that the defect density for the model generated during its passage through the superfluid-insulator critical point does not demonstrate such a scaling law. We point out the reason for such a discrepancy and also discuss order parameter dynamics of the Bose-Hubbard model during such a quench.
